ABOUT HEATHER’S PERSONAL PRACTICE

Over the years, Heather’s personal projects focus on a variety of themes including nature, well-being and societal issues like stigma in mental health and illness. Many projects, ideas and concepts explored over the years interlink to create a unique collection of pieces in which you’ll find on the home page. Heather believes creativity in its wide variety of forms is crucial to our existence and mental well-being.

This portfolio is an insight into who Heather whose wide range of skills lead to a diverse portfolio of mixed-media projects. A collection (or archive) of selected projects, pieces, spanning a wide range of disciplines and formats, which sit across digital and physical. Ideas that have been developed through visual and conceptual experimentation, collaboration and research.

“As a writer and artist my work is never complete. My brain automatically consistently makes connections between concepts which helps me to develop my research and refine ideas over time. Therefore projects dating 2010 may sit beside projects from 2023.

I come from a family of creatives, so from a very young age I knew I wanted to be a writer and Illustrator. I studied a Fine Art Bachelor of Arts at Middlesex as well as a Design for Art Direction Master of Arts at University of the Creative Arts London, London College of Communication. So copywriting, conceptual development, interrogation of creative ideas and topics through research, critical thinking and exploration has been key to my practice throughout my studies and beyond.

Each project idea and background is often accompanied by an artistic expression of an idea or brief. Expressing the idea through a wide variety of mediums allows me to feel the concept and respond to it more deeply. Whether it’s through singing, dancing, painting or creating a film. Realistic and abstract depictions of the people, objects and spaces which drive my conceptual practice. Like most artists, I take inspiration from everything, people, history, society and culture, my environment, memories, trends any many more. With my Fine Art background I very often think and see things differently to others. I’m committed to making work for good and raising awareness for societal issues. I’m also committed to learning continuously to feed into my ability to reach wider audiences through driving strong creative messages and ideas, in the right place, at the right time, with relevant and inclusive content.”

I come from a family of performers and actors, so music and self-expression, costume and stage are also key influences. I love creating things by hand and have a passion for keeping traditional art alive, but I believe the best way to do this is by also embracing change, harnessing digital techniques and innovations. My favourite projects combine digital and traditional mediums to create pieces that stand out as unique amongst the crowded digital landscape, to create content that lasts in the minds of the audiences’.

In between running my own magazine, I’ve spent over 5 years working with advertising agencies global brands. I’ve spent time analysing data to understand what makes a strong brand and creative campaign, what resonates with consumers and captures authentic attention, leading to brand advocacy, ROI and ultimately business growth. The data is undeniable, Creative Content is still
King Queen. Nothing truly beats a well thought-out, strategic and powerful execution of a creative idea, and I want to dive into those spaces and companies at the forefront of those creative ideas and designs that are shaping our future.

Creating films in Adobe PremierePro, Digital Illustration and collage using a combination of hand drawn techniques, Photoshop and Illustrator is currently my strongest skill and passion. I am also skilled in designing presentation decks and documents using Keynote, PowerPoint and Indesign and have a strong understanding of editorial layout, typography and colour theory.

I’m confident I’ve mastered creating in the physical world and I am now actively developing my digital software skills and knowledge - for example 3D sculpting and modelling in Blendr, as well as learning how to transform my illustrations, physical and digital models and collections into animations.

I am skilled both at working autonomously and with teams and partners to develop strong ideas and concepts through visual research and experimentation to respond to creative briefs.

My strongest skills are in copywriting, painting and drawing /illustration and image making (both digital and analogue), visual and graphic design, photography and filmography, VoiceOver and performance work including dance and singing.

I am proficient in many of the Adobe Suite programs including Indesign, Photoshop, Premiere Pro, with growing skills in Illustrator, After Effects and Blender.
